The Teacher
by Freida McFadden
dark
tense
As this was my first experience with McFadden, I didn't really have any expectations. I had heard mixed things about this due to the main plot- but I did enjoy this due to McFadden's writing style. I definitely will read more from her.
I was concerned coming into this due to the plot involving a teacher/student relationship, which I tried to suppress but certain aspects (around pgs 170-190) i didn't enjoy. But as the book progressed, this did die down until 30 pages to the end, where this aspect started to conclude due to prior context being revealed. The context being added did make this aspect more bearable, as it thankfully portrayed this relationship morally. However, the biggest twists revolve around this plot, significantly the last 2 twists.
Despite this slight discomfort, there was jaw-dropping twists, and the tension throughout was brilliant. These factors are the main influence towards my rating, as the twists and tension pulled me in. In the later half of the book, I enjoy the character progression as true colours were shown, and my prior thought on characters drastically changed.
If you like Steven Cavaragh's books, you will like Freida Mcfadden.
