Mustard Seed
by Laila Ibrahim
This is a sequel to the book "Yellow Crocus", about a slave and her young charge. In this book, the Civil War has ended, but slavery still exists in the south under a different name. I felt some of the writing was stiff, and the whole last third of the book was silly and unnecessary. The most compelling parts were the descriptions of how blacks were treated 20 years after the war was over. Sadly, it still sounds all too familiar.
