The Cockroach by Ian McEwan
3.0
It's a nice read, but I think that's all I can really say about it.
McEwan has a nice writing style and you fly through it, so that's great.
The story itself is just not very original and I must say that the whole reverse Kafka's Metamorphosis thing is fun at the beginning, but doesn't reaaaally continue to work throughout the novella.
It almost feels like a class-assignment in which everyone has to do their own version of Kafka based on current events; that sounds mean and as I said it is well-written, so it would be an amazing creative writing class, but still, the whole cockroach-part of the story doesn't reaaally make sense.
I would not not recommend it, but I also wouldn't buy it very quickly as gift for someone. But if you like easy to read political satire this is the one for you!
