Bitter Sweet Love by Jennifer L. Armentrout

4.0

Bitter Sweet Love was definitely a good book, definitely a JLA book and I really liked it. It's a great introduction for this series which I think is gonna kick some serious ass!

In this prequel novella, we meet Jasmine, a Warden. She's an eighteen year old gargoyle, who's in search of some freedom and some excitement. Female Warden are very sheltered. Here comes Dez, or rather comes back... Dez is twenty-one, he's a Warden too and he was Jasmine's best friend and well...her everything, until one day, three years ago when he just left. No goodbyes, no news, no letters, no NOTHING. Now he's back, sexier than ever and he wants to mate with Jas. He has seven days to convince her to say yes, seven days to prove her that he's still the same Dez has before, seven days to show her his love... Will Jasmine accept his demand? Will Dez tell her why he left?

I already loved gargoyles because of Stone Guardian by Danielle Monsch but Jennifer made me love them even more and Bitter Sweet Love is just a novella so I really don't know what I'll feel after reading White Hot Kiss! It's a shame that the story was so short (it's the point of a novella, but still), I'd have loved to read more about this sweet couple. Jas and Dez were really cute together and in such a short time Jennifer came to make me care for them, I laughed, I swooned (always with JLA, ALWAYS), I got angry a bit and then I got happy... What can I say? It's the Jennifer Armentrout's effect.

The new universe that JLA created is great, I love it already, we get just a glimpse of it in Bitter Sweet Love but that's the point, it makes us even more impatient for White Hot Kiss! Gargoyles can be so hot, like, a few months ago I wouldn't have thought that possible but let me tell you... THEY CAN AND THEY ARE! In all seriousness though, the universe is really interesting and I cannot wait to read more about it.

The romance, as always with JLA, was swoon worthy. It's a YA book but with a NA tendency. Jennifer is a great writer for that, because even if it's only a YA, she knows exactly what to say, what to write and she's not shy about it and I love that! There was a scene where I laughed so hard, it was just so funny and kinda bold for a YA book...

Dez was hot with too much self-esteem (in a good way!) but also very sweet and protective and patient. He was a good MC and I hope to see more of him in the future! Jasmine was stubborn, a bit cocky but also sweet and understanding, I guess... Not my favorite heroine, true, since it's a novella we don't really have time to know them well but I think I'm gonna prefer Layla.

We actually meet the three MCs from White Hot Kiss. I'm so freaking excited! Layla seems awesome and so fragile! In this book, she apparently looks very young, I don't know if Bitter Sweet Love is set way before White Hot Kiss but Jas thought that Layla was thirteen so... LOL.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna love her. Zayne seems very cute and sweet but... BUT ROTH!!!! We only see him very briefly but WHAT.A.SIGHT! He's (the little I've seen of him) so freaking hot, and cocky, and kinda sweet/mean and I am so excited for him. I am not a big fan of love triangles (at all) but I truly hope that the love triangle will not be a true love triangle if that makes any sense... I just want Roth and Layla... PLEASE?

Aaaahh Jennifer, you will be the death of me! Such a talented author and I can never get enough of her work. Bitter Sweet Love was a great book, definitely worth buying and you should definitely read it before the release of White Hot Kiss. It's a really good introduction to the Dark Elements series, with a sweet romance and every YA/PNR fans will love it!
