The book was very action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat, although the ending was a bit predictable. Also, the whole romance plot between Phileas and Aouda was not developed well or even believable. It was sweet, but poorly written. However, the book was quite funny, especially Passepartout’s perspective and adventures. It was not a particularly difficult read, either, and I frequently forgot just how old the book is.
This book made me feel anticipation. Will Phileas arrive in time? Will Fix arrest him? Is Passepartout alright? Who knows…? The deadline of the trip really drove the story along.
However, the book really pales in comparison to the PBS Masterpiece tv series adaptation of it. Definitely worth watching, and one of the few book to screen adaptations that is actually better than the book.
