The Scourge
by Jennifer A. Nielsen
Extremely meh.
This book wasn't horrendous, but it took me two weeks to read because I was so uninterested and it is NOT a large book, so I'm erring on the side of 2 stars.
I picked up The Scourge because I always want to read about plagues, but it was obvious from the first few chapters that there was no real plague. This was billed as YA, but reads a lot more like a young reader book. The plot is simple and obvious, and the worldbuilding was probably done with about 4 of those oversize LEGO blocks. Weevil and Ani could have been interesting characters but unfortunately, surrounded by such a stick-figure plot and setting, their antics were only annoying.
