Look yall this book is pitch Black. The villain in this book is a villain. He’s unrepentant. He’s vile. He does HORRIFIC things. I love that the author demonstrates the difference between a reason and an excuse to perfection in this book. Ren is sadistic. A lot of it is born from his own trauma. While he learn his backstory as throughout the book from the start. We are never made to feel sympathy or empathy for him because yes his trauma is the reason he is what he is. It’s not an excuse though. He still chose to gleefully embrace his darkness. He has zero remorse for anything he does. He is not the sexy psycho you root for. He is the serial killer who was demise you crave. This book is a really well done psychological thriller with tons of horror elements. This is not a romance. There are ZERO romantic connections. This isn’t a toxic romance. It’s just toxic.
