Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige
2.0
2/5 Stars: ‘Mera: Tidebreaker’ by Danielle Paige.
→ Age Range: Young Adult.
→ Genre: Graphic Novel, DC Fantasy.
→ Trigger Warnings: Violence, Drowning, Oppression.
In-depth Rating:
→ Plot: ★★★
→ Character Development: ★★
→ Setting: ★
→ Entertainment Level: ★★
→ Writing: ★★
General Comments: Classically formulaic; evoking juvenile star-crossed lovers, those buffeted by fate, and the constraints of royalty. The journey is lack-lustre and under-developed. While navigating history, birth-right, and expectations, it does uphold a positive tone: our fate is our own. There is a solid amount of action; however, the characterisation suffers tenfold as a result. The artwork is beautiful, but muted.
Favourite Quote: ‘When we come out of the shadows, does the darkness stay with us?’
Time Read: One Day.
→ Audiobook: No.
→ Audiobook Narrator: -
