The Lost World: The Junior Novelization by Gail Herman

3.0

I enjoyed Jurassic Park, but had heard this book did not live up to it's predecessor. It actually exceeded my expectations, but my expectations were very low, so ... Three stars it was.

The Lost World had many of the same aspects that made the first book enjoyable for me--the tension was well done but not too much for me (I'm a wimp when it comes to scary books), there were interesting science discussions that were easily understandable as a science layman, and I loved the way the characters had to be solving a new problem constantly.

The reason I gave it a lower rating was that while it was enjoyable overall, the plot felt contrived. It was an almost complete repeat of Jurassic Park's plot. There were many very predictable aspects and a lot was left unexplained. The ending felt rushed and was very unsatisfying for me.

Overall, if you enjoyed Jurassic Park, you'll probably enjoy this as well, just know it's not quite as well done.

Content: More swearing than the first (including many instances of the f word); Obviously violence, with the dinosaur attacks (it could be gruesome at times, taking about things like body parts coming off, but the book didn't focus on it and there weren't long descriptions of the violence).
