On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
5.0

Angie Thomas has done it again! Thomas uses the same themes: racism, poverty, police brutality, drugs etc to address the issues within the black community. A young girl named Bri finding her voice in a place that wants to silence her based on the color of her skin. The message that the readers should take away from the book is don't let anybody silence you because of your race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Our voices have the power to make a difference in our communities.
