Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman

5.0

We follow a dad taking care of his children while mom is out of town. Despite her reminders that they were low on milk- of course our dad forgets! Thus he embarks on a seemingly quick trip to the corner store the next morning to pick some up so his dear children would have breakfast! Heartfelt, right?

Gaiman is a genius.

I knew that before I picked up this book. But, reading it in the 30 minutes that I did, I am far more impressed with him now than I ever could be reading one of his adult novels. It’s so hard to write kids books and not everyone can write something that captures the imagination and interests of young people so easily.

This is a book, however, completely encompasses why I fell in love with reading in the first place. It is equal parts original, adventurous, silly and hilarious. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. From aliens, to wumpires, to pirates, dinosaur cops, Splod (our volcano god) and talking ponies, our fun loving dad takes us through a far fetched journey that will have you be fortunate, that he had the milk all along.
