Underdog by Markus Zusak

Favourite Quote: “There was only me who could worry about what was happening here, inside these walls of my life. Other people had their own worlds to worry about, and in the end, they had to fend for themselves, just like us.”

After reading The Book Thief and I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak, I knew I had to read more of his works, so I picked this book up! Since this was his first novel, I did not expect it to be as good as his other books and I wasn’t wrong, this book was no where near as good as the others and I give it a 2/5 stars!

One good thing about reading this book was I was able to see how far Markus Zusak has grown as a writer! And that was just wonderful to see! As for the book itself, it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t that good. My main problem was there was no plot line, it was all just the thoughts of a 15-year-old boy and a lot of the time it was just boring! Though I must say if this was any other author, I would have DNF this book but Markus Zusak has such a unique writing ability that I couldn’t not finish the book!

Another thing I did like about the book was the characters. I loved Cameron and Ruben’s brotherly bond and I loved them both individually, they were just lost souls! The rest of the characters were not developed well so I can’t really comment on how I felt about them!

Overall this book was ‘meh’ and I don’t know if I will continue will the rest of the series!
