There's a lot going on with this book: family dynamics, romantic turmoil, historical mystery, town politics, and more, so I can understand why some reviewers thought it was a bit all over the place. Despite that, and while I agree that there were some aspects of the book I found unnecessary, overall, it kept me entertained, especially the story of Rose.
