Give Me a Reason
by A.L. Jackson
Eden Murphy is a down on her luck teacher and widow who needs extra cash. She’s the daughter of a preacher, who teaches Sunday school. She’s sweet and innocent, despite having been married before, but she’s a girl willing to do whatever she has to do to help those she loves. She loves her dad and she absolutely adores Gage, the sweetest boy in her Kindergarten class. Trent Lawson is a grumpy, single dad hiding from a dangerous past. His primary focus has, and will be, his son Gage’s safety. But when Eden comes looking for a job at his bar to make extra cash, her goodness and sweetness are like chum in the water and he just can’t leave her alone. Every time he tries to stay away from her, it seems like fate keeps throwing them in each other’s paths over and over again. He’s super possessive and protective of her right from the start and he’s going to try everything to protect her - even from himself and the pitch black from his past that’s trying to reclaim him.
Give Me A Reason is the first book I’ve read by AL Jackson and I’m completely hooked. I really enjoyed her distinctive writing style that truly elicits emotional responses as you read it, almost like a prompt. And oh, my heart, what an angsty, emotional journey it was! The story is extremely well written and has phenomenal character development. You honestly care about these characters, what happens to them, and those they care about. The story was a journey with tons of emotional growth for both Trent and Eden. It was wonderful to see Trent come to accept that he was worthy of love and goodness, despite the wrongs of his past and how Eden accepts him for how he is, and not for how he appears to be. All the feels! The story was is far more complex than it first appears to be and it's wonderful to see it all fall into place with a twist I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait for the other books in this series about Trent’s brothers and hopefully Eden’s friend Tessa? I guess we’ll see!
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: opposites attract/single dad
