I've heard good reviews of this book but didn't really know what it was about, so I was a little surprised when I realized that it was a fantasy story in a modern setting. Our main character finds herself in a early college program where shit gets real and things that make no sense pop up all around her. In an effort to understand she starts poking around trying to find information.

The contrast of high fantasy elements in a modern setting was pretty delightful and I felt like it was done pretty well considering. I enjoyed the racial commentary, the main characters journey, the friendships and relationships without and the process of trying to figure it all out along with our main character.

I feel like it ended in a satisfying way, but has got me involved enough to want to continue the series when it is available to be continued. I am a little annoyed that the next book isn't available already, cause I can't wait.
