Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy: A Modern Graphic Retelling of Little Women by Rey Terciero

1.0

Feel kinda guilty leaving this a low review, because it’s a middle grade adaptation after all, and it’s well loved by the actual target audience at my library - and any book that gets the kids passionate about reading is a blessing.

But honestly I feel that this is a really shoddy job. All the characters are sanitised to the point of soullessness; the complex gender, class and race politics of the original text are reduced to inane tokenisms; the dynamics between the characters (the driving force of Little Women?) are completely meaningless. Again I sound crazy because it’s a MIDDLE GRADE GRAPHIC ADAPTATION but just trust me this was lazy.
