Did not finish book.
The racial dynamic is pretty messed up, from whites using the n-word freely, to how the black character is tread and how he talks about himself...the prologue ends with the black character saying "I am just an ol' nigger who, if it wasn't for a couple of white boys, would be sittin' in the back with José, beatin' off by his lonesome."
Yeah, I was honestly done after reading that sentence, but the next morning I decided give it one more chance because it was written by a Black queer elder. But when after reading the first chapter it was very clear to me that this book was not the one for me. Which is why it is on my DNF list where it will stay lol.
