I feel like the best way to experience this book is to listen to it with a physical copy in front of you. This is something I never do (my audiobook listening happens in the car or while I'm getting ready in the morning or doing chores) but both formats add something to this book. Heughan and McTavish do an excellent job narrating - I can understand why this won the 2022 Audie award for History/Biography - and just like in the TV show "Men in Kilts", their back and forth banter comes through, with lots of comedic moments, while each is a fantastic narrator on their own. I personally feel that some of the heavier history sections would have sunk in better for me by reading the physical version, which I noticed as I skimmed my copy at home. If you are a fan of Outlander, Scotland, or travelogues, definitely consider giving this one a shot. I will mention that if you know nothing about Outlander, some of the quips and sections will be lost on you, but there is plenty to enjoy even without that knowledge.
