MQ never disappoints! Gabby and Ryland are the perfect pair to bring this series to a close. Their chemistry, banter, and deeply personal journeys made this book both heartwarming and unputdownable for me.
Gabby and Ryland shine as characters who are equal parts strong, stubborn, and guarded, yet tender, caring, and loyal. The romance might have been slow-burn, but this book was chock full of tension and moments of vulnerability as they bond over their shared difficult upbringings. Seeing both characters—who are so used to taking care of everyone else—finally be cared for was one of my favorite elements of the story.
The supporting cast adds even more charm, with hilarious side characters and the continuation of the series’ strong found-family and real-family dynamics. (Shoutout to our fellow romance reader, Bower - I hope we get her story sometime in the future.) Ryland’s relationship with his niece, Mac, is especially heart-melting, and Gabby’s interactions with her add an extra layer of sweetness. Mac might honestly be one of my favorite kids in a romance novel!
As for the romance? The spice starts early (CHAPTER 2!!!) and keeps the heat alive throughout, which could have been overwhelming, but feels just right for Gabby and Ryland. The slow burn of their emotional connection made the eventual payoff so satisfying, blending friendship, tension, and passion seamlessly.
This book is a must-read for anyone who loves romantic comedies that pack an emotional punch. With laugh-out-loud moments, heartfelt themes, and a couple you can’t help but root for, it’s the perfect way to say goodbye to Almond Bay. Highly recommend!
