It's better than I expected. At moments it's so ridiculous it's actually funny. I'm pretty invested in Rose/Dimitri drama. Training scenes and one pushing against the wall and I'm hooked, I'm a simple girl. Of course there'll be some dumb love triangle (or two) later on.

Rose is your classic popular girl. She's bitchy, mean and jealous of everything and everyone around Lissa. You can't convince me that Rose doesn't have at least a tiny crush on Lissa. There's a lot of homoerotic subtext, and yes, maybe it's just because she drank her blood and that's always hot.
I can't decide if I like Rose or she annoys me. On the plus side her inner voice is actually fun. Jokes are on a level of 12 year old trying to make dick jokes, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't laughed more than few times.
Only reason Rose goes into Lissa's head is because YA genre never heard of writing in 3rd person. Not to mention it's definitely invasion of privacy but she does it 'to check on Lissa' so that makes it okay, somehow.

Dimitri has one character trait and that's duty, duty, duty. And occasionally ogles Rose's hair. I liked how they dealt with consequences of lust spell. It's so much better than it just being brushed off like nothing happened.
The villian has motivation. I'm impressed. I can actually understand him, and yes his methods are wrong, but he had a point.

REREAD
After finishing whole series, I've decided I love Rose and she can do no wrong. I had even more fun second time around. Just hearing Dimitri say "Roza" in russian accent on audio deserves five stars.
I love amount of 'foreshadowing' here.
Especially, blood whores. Might be my favourite moment in the series. And great character development on that subject.
