The Summer of Jordi Perez (and the Best Burger in Los Angeles)
by Amy Spalding
This book was a great read. I loved seeing such a diverse main character talking about some of the issues that are rarely discussed in YA novels, such as body consciousness and LGBT+ relationships. I think that more books such as these open doors into the world for teens unlike any other media type. Some of my hang ups with this book was that Amy Spalding never seemed to actually end a scene. Action or emotion would be happening, and then it would cut off to the next chapter. I felt that this made the book short and unsatisfying. Otherwise, I enjoyed the humor of the characters and I think it had a great topic.
