Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Took me a year to read lol, but I really loved it.

I think the magic system is really cool and it would be fun to see the rest of the world explored. I'm very curious about the Fold and would like more details. But I'm sure those will come in the next two instalments.

The Darkling is such an interesting villain! I mean, I've heard a lot about him from the book community so I might've gone into the book with a bit of a bias towards him so there's that. I'm lowkey sad he turned out to be so evil, though, because I was kind of shipping him with Alina. Speaking of ships, most people seem to hate Mal, by the way, which I don't get yet. I didn't think he was AMAZING but like, I didn't hate him either??

You know, I kind of wish I had read this book before it was so popular and talked about everywhere because there was no way for me to go into it without any preconceived opinions but oh well. Better late than never.

Getting to the protagonist: I liked Alina! She's a solid character. Not immediately one of my favourites but again, this was only the first book. So far, I have liked the way she dealt with things.

I'm excited to see more in the rest of the trilogy!
