On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

This was great. I love a flawed MC, especially when they grow in response to the mistakes they make. This book is full of love, hope, and grappling with the everyday reality many folks aren't all that willing to talk about. There are real world consequences to choices, but we continue past those and working towards a better future, and that'll get me every time.

Content/trigger warnings for police brutality, racism, drugs/drug abuse, child abandonment, and gangs.
