The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
5.0
Honestly, I'm shocked, so it won't be a coherent review, because there's nothing coherent about my thoughts right now. I just loved it, every second of it. Don't have much to say about the plot, because noting really goes on, and I liked it that way because it allowed more space to create vibe-mood-ambience, which was to die for. The supernatural element was played brilliantly into the story, and made it so much more interesting and chilling (some scenes were straight creepy, wow, who would've thought). Now onto what really sold me into this shit: characters. CHARACTERS. More specifically, the Raven Boys (nothing against my girl Blue, but them boys really stole the show for me), more specifically Ronan and Gansey. They are such good characters. Such. Good. Characters. I really didn't want to be the girl screaming and melting after Gansey and Ronan, but guess what, turns out I absolutely am. No regrets whatsoever. Seriously though, all the characters were so well depicted, so well fleshed-out, so rounded, and layered, and I was definitely not prepared for the depth that I was given. Every character stands out, every character had its different, recognizable voice, and each character has its own story going on, and I honestly cannot wait to read more of them. I don't know, I just love them so much, I love seeing interact because it feels so genuine and so pure, with their bickering, their banter, their jokes... I can't. My heart can't handle.
On a completely different note, I have to point out that the writing was also incredible and beautiful, right up my alley in terms of bougie, snobbish and pretentious style.
To sum up, if you like a heavily character-driven story, a bit of a supernatural element mixed in and a rag-tag bunch of misfits obsessed with long-dead welsh kings I'd say you're in for a ride.
