I think this is technically a romance, but in many ways the romance seemed like just one (sometimes underdeveloped) aspect of the main character’s overall growth. It’s also both modern (especially the ending) and extremely wholesome, with supportive family and friends and no graphic sex scenes. Overall, it reminded me a lot of Sophie Kinsella in terms of witty dialogue and general feel.

As an added bonus, Lalli did a masterful job of presenting the cultural setting in ways that felt specific and true to life but also completely approachable for outsiders like me.
