This was hard to read because of the content, and because I'm as old as the formerly incarcerated youth would be now. I kept imagining them as my high school friends, making their experiences even more horrific. I wasn't a fan of the organization of this book, but the language was accessible for the intended age group. The author really burries the inadequate punishments for the culprits, and I didn't feel any sense of justice in the resolution or the information at the end about restorative practices in youth courts.
