This was a solid read and I can definitely understand the hype. Violet was a pretty brilliant character in that she persevered despite her differences. I do feel that the author went to great lengths to show that war has consequences and that the fighters bore scars that accumulated along the way.
However, a wound would just scar or the person impacted would wind up dead. There wasn't an in between in terms of limbs lost or psychological trauma that would render them unable or unwilling to fight. Very minor in the scheme of things.
The world building was fantastic. I would have loved more immersion in some of the folklore. However, I loved the bonds that formed amongst the characters. It was a bit heartbreaking seeing Violet's relationship with Dane unraveling as the story went along an. I really did enjoy this book and will look forward to the next.
