I took voice lessons from Kaye Golden Wright for 8 years, and I can truly say that she changed my life. Her passion for music and expertise in her craft inspired me and drove me to be a better musician, as well as a better person. Her patience with a young, incredibly sensitive girl was exactly what I needed at that point in my life. She grew and shaped my voice, but she also helped to shape my mind and my ambitions. I am eternally grateful that she came into my life, and am honored to be able to write this review of her life's story.
Kaye's book, *Golden Dreams Nashville Years*, is a fantastic read for anyone who is interested in the history of the music business. As I grew up taking lessons from her, getting to read about how and why she founded her vocal studio, Kaye G. Wright Studio, was so fun. But, in the midst of my nostalgia, she dropped some pearls of wisdom in there. If you have ever had the honor of meeting Kaye, you know that this is not unusual. I would like to share a couple of these pearls now:
"I am a firm believer that you need to follow your passion, no matter what field, and not allow anyone to stop you from doing so."
"You were given a gift, and you didn't do a thing to earn it. However, you have a responsibility to that gift. It is to train it, nurture it, cause it no harm and use it to give back to others."
Kaye's wisdom is the gift that just keeps giving for me in my life. I know that her story will inspire you, just as she has always inspired me.
Her stories of her early years in the Nashville music scene are at once entertaining and awe-inspiring. Imagine getting to count so many amazing musicians as friends! Her determination to succeed in such a cut-throat industry is so motivating, and is a breath of fresh air to anyone who is in the creative world. Knowing your worth and acting on it is one of the main themes of Kaye's life story, and it is something I think we can all take as a motto to live by.
If you are in any way interested in the music scene in Nashville and New York in the 1950's-1980's, this is a fantastic little read. It is short and sweet, but it packs a powerful punch. If you are an artist of any kind, Kaye's wisdom is just the thing you need to hear. I highly recommend you pick this up today, and I can guarantee you will not regret one minute of it.
