The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

5.0

My first book of 2022 was from the same time period as my first book of 2021. Maybe I should just plan to start a historical fiction book every December and see what happens?

This book was beautifully written, it was a journey, it was painful, it was pretty, it was heartbreak, it was happiness, it was... the life of the book thief, as told by Death. I thought that the author personifying death in this incredible way and making death kind, compassionate, and feeling weighed down by his sole job was such an interesting way to go. We usually see death as dark, lurking, nefarious.

I loved this book.
