Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater

3.0

This book is so lukewarm.

And I have a theory that might explain why: for some reason, someone decided that reading TRC should not be a mandatory step before reading CDTH - so we ended up with a book that tries to make TRC seem like a distant, irrelevant past. You're trying to tell me that Gansey and Blue are just the briefest of thoughts in Ronan's mind? That Ronan and Adam don't talk about what those two might be up to? That nobody thinks of contacting, idk, those other psychics that had been helping them throughout the clusterfuck that TRC was?? Now this is just unrealistic. It really bothered me how every single fact from TRC that is mentioned here is followed by the most clinical tone, like Ronan himself is somehow detached from that past.

The new characters also felt kind of... whatever. I couldn't bring myself to care much about Farooq-Lane, and Jordan's only merit was making me like Declan a bit more. Hennessy was definitely there.

You can throw whatever "transition to adulthood" explanation my way, but it all boils down to the fact that CDTH is just not as charming nor as captivating as TRC.
