Honestly, the entire plot was an unwinnable fight on a hostile inhabitant planet from the perspective of a brave captain legionnaire fighting against the enemy amidst bad leader decisions.
As with many sci-fi military books, there is little character development, a lot of shooting and action, a lot of ‘Captains’, ‘Sirs’, and ‘I still have men down there’.
Of course, this was a free audible, otherwise there’s no way I would have read it, or finished it. Not bad writing, just not my type of book - ‘adventure and glory and bitterness’.
