Vanishing Acts
by Jodi Picoult
I am normally a big fan of Jodi Picoult and loved Nineteen Minutes, Small Great Things, Spark of Light and My Sisters Keeper but I did not enjoy this book. This story centres on Delia, loving mother and wife. Having been raised by her single dad following the death of her mother, Delia’s life is thrown upside down after the police come knocking on their door and her father is arrested for kidnapping. As the realisation that she is herself the kidnapped child and her mother is not dead at all Delia goes looking for the truth, but will she like what she finds? I didn’t care for most of the characters in this book, and there are many sub plots which could have been left out to make the book much more streamlined. The is a strange relationship between, Delia, her husband Eric, and their best friend Fitz which destroyed any sympathy you might have had for Delia and by the end of the book there were many questions left both unraised and unanswered. Such a shame but it won’t put me off reading more book by Picoult in the future.
