Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

oh my god oh my god oh my GOD okay I didn't expect that this book was going to go the way that it did but not ONCE was i disappointed. we follow the riva siblings through their really difficult childhood, an absent father, an alcoholic mother, but through it all, the siblings have this bond that twines its way through the book and into the reader's heart. this story is about more than sibling love - it is about cycles. the cycle of fire in malibu. intergenerational traumas, what we hold, learn, and accept from our parents. the cycle of fame and privilege and wealth. the cycle of summer after summer in California and what it's like to decide that it's time for all of that to end. i'd recommend this to anyone who was in the mood for a novel to grip them tight, pull them close, and then let them go suddenly, and obviously anyone who enjoyed The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (because Husband #3 might look a little different after this book).
