Moby Dick
by Herman Melville
I was keen to read a book about whaling, and a captain obsessed with hunting his nemesis. What I got was about 20 pages of Ahab actually chasing the whale and way too many pages describing whales.
At first I thought I just wasn't fully understanding the book. But then halfway through I found myself reading a chapter where Melville is describing the best whale paintings that exist. Like literally writing about what's in the painting. The chapter accomplished nothing. There was so much tedium and unnecessary descriptions. No one could convince me it's worth it.
Cut 300 pages and I reckon it could be good.
