The Naturals
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Briggs? Manipulative king. Would not be shocked if he turned out to be a villain—dude gives off shady FBI energy from the start.
Judd, though? Met him and instantly liked him. Grumpy, quiet, mysterious. We love a gruff protector.
Look, I begged the universe for no love triangle, and then—bam. Sigh. If there has to be one, Team Dean all the way. His emotionally stunted serial-killer’s-son vibe? Deliciously angsty.
Michael gives me the ick. Lia tests my patience. Sloane? A chaotic stats girlie and my favorite. Dean? Brooding perfection. Cassie is a little annoying, but in that “I’m seventeen and trying my best” kind of way.
Honestly, the profiling stuff and criminal psychology? Very cool. But the romance subplot felt kind of shoehorned in. I wanted more training sequences and less pining.
BUT THEN—PLOT TWIST. Totally caught me off guard and pulled me back in.
3.5 stars. Would read the sequel. Would trust Dean with my life. Would not trust Briggs with my lunch order.
