Swept Away by Beth O'Leary

I really enjoyed this book. The plot itself is very unique and I liked the characters. I wish we got a better description of Lexi (the whole book I pictured her with black hair but then found out she was blonde...unless I missed something early on). I also don't usually enjoy age-gap books at all but I enjoyed this one.

About halfway through the book I got bored. Because of the chapter names, I knew Day 12 was the end but by Day 5 I was over reading about them on the boat. Thank goodness they found that oil rig and we got a change of scenery because I was very close to DNFing or to skipping to Day 11.  However, what are the odds that the oil rig starts falling apart when they find it, unless they disturbed it by being the only people on it but I doubt that.

I did not see the main plot twist coming (Zeke being Mae's daughter) OR the side plot twist (Penny never told Zeke she was pregnant) AT ALL. Looking back I'm like, how did I not see it? If I had paid closer attention to the timeline of it all maybe I could have, but I was more concerned with them being on a houseboat in the middle of the ocean (I'm terrified of the ocean). And then once we got that big plot twist, I thought that was it. I truly believed that maybe Zeke forgot that he got a girl pregnant or asked her to terminate? I'm not sure, at this point I was just along for the ride and past any critical thinking skills I ever once had.

On that note, I hate Penny. Sorry not sorry, grow up and learn how to communicate PLEASE. Also, I know Lexi sees her as a sister and a gift and isn't mad that her mom left stuff to Penny upon her death, but I am. I would be very upset if my mother's houseboat was sold for "way over asking price," and I was never even told.

Lexi is immature for simply ignoring Zeke. You can't make jokes the whole time about you being so much older and ancient if you have the conflict resolution skills of a child.

I do think it's kind of adorable that Lexi's child will be a half sibling of Mae. This is actually one of the only times I've liked a baby epilogue.
