Everything's Coming Up Rosie by Courtney Walsh
5.0
This book is a love letter to the theatre. I loved all the characters, the story, all the accurate details about the theatre world and I especially loved the ending. No spoilers, but Rosie made the right choice and I was so happy she did what felt right in her heart.
I relate so hard to Rosie Waterman. Her need to be perfect, to hide when she’s struggling, and the feeling that if she’s not doing exactly what she thought she was going to do, she’s failing. I feel that all on a daily basis and it was so cathartic to read about a character who has all the same feelings I do in the same industry I’m in!
The narrator Jorjeana Marie brought a beautiful lightheartedness to the character of Rosie, but she was also able to dig into the deeper more emotional moments of the book.
Professional theatre is pretty broken right now. It’s impossible to get cast if you haven’t already had a big role. Those Nationwide Casting Searches for the Dolly Musical and Heathers? Yeah, they cast Broadway Stars - all us little people? Nothing. There are SO MANY talented people just waiting to be discovered. Casting Directors, we are begging you to see us. Hear us. Take a chance on us. The theatre world is HARD, but it’s especially crappy right now and Courtney Walsh’s reminder to Dream Big Dreams, but also don’t be afraid to let them shift and evolve is something everyone (especially us theatre people) need to hear right now. Thank you, Courtney Walsh, for the reminder that sometimes our paths aren’t straight lines.
If you love theatre, you’ll love this book!
