Daisy Miller
by Henry James
Daisy Miller is a beautiful young American traveling through Europe, but runs afoul of the expatriot community: they don't approve of her behavior. Miss Miller is a free spirit, a flirt, and stays out late, with local young men. Alone. In the Victorian era, this was quite scandalous, but Daisy doesn't care what people think. She is also revealed to be a bit immature and inconsiderate, and maybe a bit shallow.
I really enjoyed this story that compared and contrasted the American tourists with their countrymen now living abroad.
