Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

5.0

As a long time fan of Rainbow I knew I would be reading this no matter what the concept was, but finding out it was two kids who work together in a pumpkin patch and there could be a romance involved I was so in! Deja and Josiah are precious and I want to squish them so badly. I found them both as individual characters so charming and well developed, even though we spent so little time with them I felt like I knew them and I got them. And even better is how their friendship was written and drawn, it felt so pure and sweet, they balanced each other so well it just made sense that they were best friends and that there could be more there if they wished. I thought the art style was fantastic, all the little details were subtle but really brought the whole concept of a pumpkin patch together. I adored all the puns on the signs like "Give Piece a Chance" at the Pie Palace or the "An Apple a Day Keeps the Dentist Paid" at the Caramel Apple Stand. Plus the subplots like Buck the goat and Deja and her snack vengeance and how they took up just the right amount of space but never overcrowded the main plot were so good. Finally that ending! Was it a bit predictable? Yes. But it was still lovely and truth be told that's why we love them so often in romcom movies and stuff right? I definitely let out a happy sigh and squeezed the book when I was done, it just made me so freakin happy. I nearly started it over immediately.
