Seasparrow by Kristin Cashore

5.0

This book. I didn't enjoy Winterkeep that much - I didn't really connect with another country and new characters when I knew my girl Bitterblue was right there - so I had middling expectations for this one and I'm so happy they were surpassed. Seasparrow brought me back to those same feelings that Graceling gave me and more. Hava was absolutely, unapologetically surly and mean and so, so complex that any unlikeability was actually charming. Her point of view always kept me interested because you never quite knew what she was going to do next. I actually think she and Bitterblue are tied for my favorite character in this series, which is kind of perfect considering they are two sides of the same coin. I also think this was a much better way to build up the world of the series because we were already invested in the central characters. The main storyline kept me hooked and. This was just so so good. 10/10 would recommend.
