The Giant's House by Elizabeth McCracken

Two misfits find each other in this odd love story. Peggy is lonely and James is an oddity. She feels she must care for him and he allows it. Their friendship, from the time he is 11, grows into love. They need each other. Her, to give her a purpose in life, and him, so that he feels someone will love him for who he is. It's a touching book.
