🕊️
Really standard plot of humans with magic ability vs humans without magic ability. The world building was very info-dumpy in the beginning. It was easy to understand and not too complex, though. Once that legwork was out of the way, the writing and storytelling vastly improved.
I found the political history interesting and hope there’s more as the series continues.
The character work was fun. Wren is ✨That Bitch✨ but also annoying as hell. I love how strong willed her character is. She’s short-sighted, impulsive and reckless, which would be more annoying, except she fully recognizes this as a fault and that somehow makes her behavior a little more endearing.
Lots of the twists were super predictable. Instead of wondering what was going to happen / be revealed, I was wondering how things would unfold. Didn’t really take any of the enjoyment out of the story though. It was still a super fun read.
A couple of the twists at the very end did reveal some things that I was surprised by, so I’m happy that there was a couple of plot developments that I didn’t see coming. It also provided a great set up for the next book!
I plan on continuing the series.
