This wonderful fairy tale is about two girls: one who has been placed on a mountain made of glass and the other who walks in iron shoes. When introduced both are alone dealing with their burdens. Both feel they deserve their burdens and must deal with them to right their situations. Once they meet a beautiful friendship is make and the support they receive from each other helps each to see they don't have to live the way they are living.

Like most fairy tales this story provides a lesson, social commentary and an examination of behavior. It is a quick read but the story stays with you for a long time. Recommend this short story and want to read more from Amal El-Mohtar.
