East, West by Salman Rushdie

3.0

This book was recommended to me by my tutor during one of the creative writing workshops. He pointed out that the style of my writing, reminded him of an author who he 'wouldn't usually recommend': Salman Rushdie. In particular he recommended that I read 'At the Auction of the Ruby Slippers' and I have to say this was the one I enjoyed the most. When reading the short stories, I found that I wasn't always captured, and didn't always pay attention. Nonetheless I enjoyed them, but I'm not sure I would be able to successfully get into a longer piece of fiction by Rushdie, but I would give it a go. These short stories are worth a read in any case.
