Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah

3.0

3.5 stars. I understand it's a true story and maybe I should make it 5 stars but I didn't really get pulled in like so many others. I was not very much moved. I have tons of questions and slight anger at what I see as privelege but portrayed as just naughty, and explained as okay because of the environment. Yes I should be more empathetic and I understand he was a product of circumstance and it was a traumatic era. I expected more due to the rave reviews but I feel like there were many things left out and it felt sort of rushed. Why did we not get the story how he came into comedy and success? I think that would be great to know simply because childhood was pretty rough. Whatever, it's late and maybe I'm just insensitive.
