Temeraire by Naomi Novik
5.0
I can honestly say that I did not expect this book to be as good as I found it to be. Historical fantasy is not something that I usually enjoy but the inclusion of dragons and their aviators in a war between Napoleon and Britain was brilliant.
Different from any of the dragon books I've read, Temeraire is more about the relationships between the dragon's and their aviators. I loved the micro-world that Novik created within the army, where women were captains as well as men because some dragons simply prefer women and that's the end of it. There's a small society within the wider society that has a different culture and we are introduced to it through Captain Laurence's and Temeraire's eyes.
The book begins with his preconceptions of dragons and aviators. The rest of the book is essentially him learning the truth of it, with some sky battles thrown in.
