Extreme Makeover by Dan Wells
2.0

The concept is amazing and the plot was well done. Dan Wells was not afraid to take an idea and run all the way home with it, bringing new meaning to "what's the worst that could happen". Clever and well thought out.

His writing, however, is juvenile at best. The characters frequently monologue their motivations to themselves and everything is explained in the epitome of "telling". Not that the motivations were any good - many times it was simply agonizing to read the weak logic jumps and lackluster emotional appeals. The romance plotlines were cringy and painful. At no point in the book was there a genuine concern for any of the characters or interest in their relationships.
