Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

3.0

When he was 8 years old, David witnessed the Epic, Steelheart, mercilessly kill hundreds of humans, including his father. Now 18, David is determined to join the Reckoners, a small band of humans whose mission is to overthrow the Epics' tyranny and bring power back to the humans. I loved the fresh and original premise, and the first quarter of the book started off strong. But there was so, so, SOOOO much telling instead of showing. It might have been better in 3rd person instead of 1st... David's stream-of-consciousness telling us why he was thinking something and why he was doing something and how someone reacted to what he had said or done got old fairly fast. No real desire to read the sequel.
