The Outside by Ada Hoffmann

5.0

I LOVED this book. I thought it was so original and the ideas were formulated perfectly. The idea of AI gods and tech-modified angels was so interesting to read, and the concept of the outside made no sense and perfect sense in a way that really worked. I liked Yasira a lot as a main character, and even when I wasn’t sure whether to hate Akavi or Ev I liked them both (but Elu will always be my fave). My one slight gripe with this book is that I didn’t feel much towards Tiv, but I did really appreciate Yasira’s attitude toward her and I liked her enough through Yasira for it to not matter I think. The story was gripping and unpredictable and the writing was my perfect blend of lyrical and plot focused. I love how it discusses autism, especially the differences between Yasira and Ev’s experiences of it. It was probably the best portrayal of autism I’ve read.
