How to Kill Men and Get Away With It
by Katy Brent
dark
funny
lighthearted
mysterious
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
Complicated
Loveable characters:
No
Diverse cast of characters:
No
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
Very easy to read, simple writing but the plot twists were obvious, and any attempts at foreshadowing were so heavy-handed that they let slip the twists 100 pages in advance. Secondary characters (Maisie, Tor, Hen etc) *barely* fleshed out, clearly there as plot points, not characters.
Worst part for me was creating a seemingly *feminist* satirical book (a woman turning the tables and killing the men who raped and sexually assaulted them!) and executing it so badly that it *reinforced* the patriarchy -by focussing almost Kitty's entire character development (and half the book!) on the male love interest?!?!
Overall very light, easy read, finished in 3 days, probably wouldn't recommend as anything other than a quick holiday read.
